• In this Exercise/Activity we will work with colour. You will need to utilize all of your conceptual skills, Adobe Illustrator (the preferred application for this Exercise/Activity) and/or Adobe Photoshop, and one of the astology signs to the right.
  • For this Exercise/Activity you will be recolouring your chosen sign utilizing two colour schemes. You can use any colour scheme covered in this presentation (except achromatic): monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, clash/discordant, tetradic, or square. (If you were to choose achromatic as one of your colour schemes, the action of simply converting your image to grayscale - would be obvious to any professional's eye immediately. And, it wouldnot be a conducive colour scheme to the theme of the image.) At the end of this Exercise/Activity you should have two versions of exactly the same image, but in completely different colour combinations.
  • Remember the three properties of colour you have to work with as well - hue, saturation/value and brightness/intensity. Don't eliminate these properties as options - especially when working with a monochromatic colour scheme.
  • Click on any image to the right to link to the page with the large format images for this Exercise/Activity. When you have found the image you want to work with, return to this page and follow the next steps.
  • If you choose to work in Adobe Illustrator, try utilizing tools like the Pen tool to trace blocks of colour. Then, add Anchor Points and try manipulating your shapes to fine-tune them. Work in layers in your software application so that the manipulation of each shape is separate.
  • If you choose to work in Adobe Photoshop, try utilizing tools like the Magic Wand to select sections of colour. Then, change the areas - maybe try working with the Gradient tool or a filter in small areas to bring some dimension and variety - if appropriate. Again, work in layers in your software application so that the manipulation of each area is separate.
  • Now that all this is said and done - you should have two completely different ideas for the astrology sign you chose. This would be how you would execute your plans for "real life" in the "real world".
