• Another type of balance is asymmetrical (informal) balance. In this case, balance is achieved with dissimilar elements that have equal visual weight or equal eye attraction.
  • Which weighs more? A pound of feathers or a pound of gold? They both weigh a pound, but their mass varies radically. This is the essence of asymmetrical balance.
  • In this example the left side provides enough visual interest to balance the visual weight on the right side - both through colour and visual texture (or lack thereof).
